SATELLITE DESCRIPTION
This half-day, trainee-led satellite session aims to provide participants with the advocacy tools and communication skills needed to address global health disparities in a sustainable manner. It will offer unique opportunities for trainees to establish or broaden their peer networks by meeting and working with interdisciplinary professionals who share a common interest in advancing the field of global health. Participants will be able to engage with a number of experts and scholars from multidisciplinary backgrounds within the global health community while strengthening fundamental skills in global health research and practice through the application of case studies.
 


AGENDA
1-  "Health Disparities and Access to Healthcare Around the World"
Opening Remarks by Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, MPA, Director of ICAP at Columbia University and the Global Health Initiative at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University

2- Advocacy and Communications Workshop Led by:

- Joia Mukherjee, MD, MPH, Associate Professor, Division of Global Health Equity, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School

- Rebecca Kaplan, PhD, Education Specialist and Mellon/ACLS Public Fellow, Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting

Dr. Mukherjee will discuss the skills trainees and new researchers need to advocate on global health issues within science or academia. 

Dr. Kaplan will focus on how to effectively communicate global health issues to a non-academic audience.

This workshop will also include group case study discussions for participants.

3- "How to Address Health Disparities in a Sustainable Manner"
Closing Address by Michelle Morse, MD, MPH, Founding Co-Director of EqualHealth; Associate Physician, Division of Global Health Equity, Brigham and Women’s Hospital
